027 - A Moment of Silence

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

This week’s episode spends a moment honoring Memorial Day and the meaning behind it. Additionally, we discuss the Mighty Ducks: Game Changers finale, this week’s episode of the Bad Batch (including Rhea Perlman’s return to working in a bar!?), and the Dadalorian Covert meeting, where this week Andrew tried Minecraft: Dungeons for the first time!

Well, Hello and welcome to Episode Twenty Seven of the Dad the Lorian podcast. It is Memorial Day today, and today I'm going to do something a little bit different. So, generally speaking, there are three major holidays that are considered in celebration of our armed forces. There is Armed Forces Day, which is the day that we celebrate those who are currently serving our country in the military, there is Veterans Day, where we are celebrating those who have previously served in the military, and then there is Memorial Day. And Memorial Day we made it out to be more of a barbecue weekend. You get out, you hang out with friends, it's a long weekend, that sort of thing. But really what it comes down to is Memorial Day is remembering those whose lives were lost in service to their country, and that is something it's a little bit more of a somber occasion. I'm not opposed to doing any of the things, like having a barbecue with friends, that sort of ...

...thing. In that is the type of thing that I will be doing on Memorial Day this year. But this week I wanted to dedicate the open to the podcast to solely be about remembering those and just taking a moment of silence. So, with that being said, we're going to have a moment of silence in honor of those fallen. Will be right back and we're back.

So this week we are going to talk about our streaming stuff and also the dead Loran covert meeting. So I'm going to start off first with the streaming. The big thing this week was the finale for mighty ducks game changers, which, honestly, I loved the series. It was definitely a dose of nostalgia and it wound up ending in a way that I didn't really expect it...

...to end that way. I assumed we were going to get to the point where the don't bothers earned the mighty ducks name and, if spoiler award, that is where it all comes down to. What I did not expect it to was be was it something that took place outside of the State Tournament? I assume something would happen where they would win it in the state tournament and that was going to be the end of it. However, what wound up happening in this particular episode is they get to the final game of the season, they have just enough players to play, except Sophie winds up being injured and at a point where if she injures her knee any worse, it could be career ending. Effectively, she doesn't want her and she doesn't want to pull out of the game. She wants to beat the duck's bad way because she left from the ducks and is there because she didn't want to be there anymore. But the game wound up getting forfeited by the team and they came...

...to it as a group decision because they did not feel that they wanted to put her at risk, and so they all forfeited in her so that she didn't have to. And it was a really, really kind of touching moment for the team to come together and do that. And as they're leaving they're getting heckled by the ducks coach, who, they point out, you're always going to have an asteris there because you didn't actually beat us. We pulled who out of it and it was words were said and eventually it gets to the point where they make a bet. They are going to meet the next day to play and it's going to be a nonsanctioned game. If the ducks win, the don't bothers go away and he never has to see hear anything about them again. But if the you don't bothers win, then they get the rights to the duck's name and they go in and sure enough, it gets into be very heated. They for whatever reason, they have this nonsanctioned game with only one referee, which to me I'm like, if you're going...

...to have a non sanctioned game, why is there a ref to begin with? But if you're going to actually have a ref why not have a full complement of them? It was a very I'm sure it was just to allow the don't bothers to get harassed continually by the ducks and just whacked around, and that's pretty much what winds up happening. But it was very interesting, though, to get into the game and the ducks wind up getting up early and then they don't bother start to battle back and they get to the last period and coach Bombay winds up getting them the old jerseys of the original ducks, so the first movie jerseys are back in play and they wind up going and they it all comes down to a final shot that they wind up getting in and they in the game and at that point the coach is going crazy because he's a jerk. He's like, I didn't even have the ability to...

...give that away. And it was fantastic because then Alex's boss, Stephanie, says, you know, he's right. He did not have the ability to give that away. See, she knows what she's talking about. She's a lawyer, but a bet's a bet. So, as member of the board, you guys get the name, and so the ducks wind up getting the name. Her the don't bothers wind up getting the name from the ducks. So Gordon Bombay is now coach of the ducks again and the season ends with him driving his Amboni across the ice and you see the old district five ducks logo in the center of the thing and their ice palace is now their home and it was just it was a really great way to end it. Are they going to get a second season? I don't know. Do I want a second season? I absolutely do. Wanted Second Season of this because I think there are so many things they can do with the story creatively. What happens to the ducks, formerly the former we known as ducks, I should say, now that they are no longer the ducks, what team do they...

...wind up being going forward. It'll be interesting to see that. It'll be interesting to see how they integrate more of the ducks backstory in terms of the original ducks, bringing them back and all of that, because I know that there's been conversations about it. Keenan Thompson is apparently agreed to come back and reprise his role from D to Charlie Conway could be coming back and because of the drama that we was teased in the throwback episode where you've got to see where some of the original ducks are in their lives now, I think that it's going to be something that they can have a lot of fun exploring, but it'll be very interesting to see where that all goes. Also with bad batch, this week we got to see ray a pearlman of cheers fame, come back to working in a bar. She was actually voicing the character of Sid, where the clones go trying to find work so that they can figure out. They don't go finding work, they actually go to try to find out more information about the bounty Hunter Fenix Shand, who is on their tail, and they go to an informant that the Jedi used to use named Sid,...

...who is played by none other than Raya Pearlman. So it was kind of a fun little I don't know if it was an intentional gag, but her running a Cantina in a situation like this, and you know obviously her being famous for playing Carla in cheers. I think that was just kind of a fun touch there. But she winds up roping them into do some work for her, rescuing a child that was taken by the Zigerian slavers. Only this child does not actually wind up being the child that we think it is, because there is one child at the slavers camp that is a fallen but it does actually wind up being a baby rancorp and it belongs to job of the hut white. There were just so many fun things about this particular situation. Matthew would returns as BIB for tuna and they wind up they wind up getting the rank corps. But there was an especially fantastic scene where they're trying to figure out how to get the baby rank or to cooperate, and tech...

...provides information saying, Oh yeah, well, they have a very strict hierarchy. You have to challenge the Alpha and wreckers like. Finally, something I could do and he goes and basically eat trades punches with this baby Rand Corp until it finally falls over a sleep, and it was a just hilarious moment to kind of get to explore the character and watch him the way that they end the fight. And then at the end when the baby Rand Corp Momucci is going with job as people and he's like by MUCCI and she turns around and gives him a roar that you can only say is a bi I'll miss you kind of thing, and it was just it was hilarious and does it. As Omega says, she's kind of cute close up. So it was it was definitely a fun thing. Now, if you're worried about this being the rank or that was at the palace scene that look skywalker kills later, it's my understanding that that was actually a male rank orps and so Mucci,...

...being a female, would not have been the one in job is palace. So how many rancors does a guy need, though? That is one thing that I do kind of want to know because, you know, my days back playing star wars galaxies, they were large animals and I don't necessarily know that I'd want to collection of them, but hey, job of the huts, gangster. Who what else you gonna do? So, finally, coming back to the DAD do orring on covert this week we had our meeting and we got to play another game. This one is one that I hadn't played before, but I discovered my golden ticket with the Games on game pass had apparently expired. So, for those of you who were not aware, I was inexplicably getting a bunch of access to games. None all of the Games that were included on game pass, but quite a few of the Games on game pass were inexplicably showing up as something that I could download and play, which I was like, I don't know why I'm getting this access, but...

...yeah, I'm going to take advantage of it, and I downloaded some games and was playing with them, and so dave actually came up with a couple different suggestions and one of them that piqued my interest was one called minecraft dungeons and basically, for those of you who aren't familiar, it's basically crossing minecraft with kind of like the Diablo esque RPG's where it's a top down you're running through the dungeon and hacking away at monsters sort of thing. It's more kid friend we than other Games, but it was definitely a fun game to get to play and you know, you can go up to four players on it, so dave and I did that this week and it was it was a blast. I really enjoyed it. But I was going to download it from game pass thinking that I still add access to it, only to find out that the game pass access that I had has now vanished into the mist and so I no longer am getting the free game pass that I was, which is fine. I wasn't expecting to get to keep it forever, but it was one of those things I was like a man, okay, I guess if I have want game pass some point I'll have to actually break down and...

...buy it, but at this point I'm not going to break down by it. So that is where we're at at this point. So, but that was a lot of fun. We got to play through a few different dungeons and get to play, just having some fun talk and stuff and going through it's really fun game. Like it was very interesting. Like I played a little bit of Minecraft, like not a ton. I don't know it that seriously, but it was something where it takes it and it provides a different type of game to really play in that universe, and so I really I had fun with it. I'll definitely do that again if that's something that we want to do. But yeah, next to at all worry in covert meeting will be coming soon. This one was actually a delayed one from May because of the wedding that I was at and not having the time to go back and reschedule. So we're going to go ahead head to our last break here and when we return we're going to have our pod decks question of the week. Stay tuned and we're back. Thanks again so much for tuning in too...

...the dead Larry in podcast. This week's question from our pod decks question of the week. which talent would you most like to have? In my particular case, I honestly there is one thing that I think about that I've not done, that I passed on when I was a kid, that I really wish I would have done now that I am an adult, and that is learned to play the piano, and the reason that I didn't wind up learning to play the piano really it was kind of a stupid reason in hindsight, but it was the fact that my sister actually did piano lessons and was better at it than I was and I didn't really want to compete with her in that arena and so I just was like Nah, I'm good, I don't need to play that. And I eventually learned to play to some different instruments. I, you know, played trombone and junior high and I play Ukulele and a little bit of Mandelin now, but it's one of those things I never really went back and got that out of the way and it's something that...

I kind of regret now because, you know, I think about all of the fun stuff that you can play on the piano, like liness and Lucy, I think, would have probably been one that I would have loved to learn, and I just obviously have never done it because I don't know how to play piano. So that is, I think, one talent that I wish that I had. So what's yours? Let me know if you've got any questions, comments anything.
