ABOUT THIS EPISODE

This week, Andrew discusses a shopping trip with Alton to buy new golf polos. Additionally, we discuss The Bad Batch, Loki, Fortnite Season 7, and the Thrawn Trilogy.

Dad because well, hello and welcome to episode twenty nine of the Deadlirian podcast. I am your host, Andrew, and we were talking all things fatherhood and streaming all of the shows that were watching, all that fun stuff. But starting out this week, this week was a fun week for me just because I wound up on Sunday kind of having an impromptu shopping trip with my son. So, basically, my wife has been having to be at home with the boys all day during the day, whereas I've been working all day during the day. And so, but working from home now and having them all there with me kind of puts me in a position where I kind of feel like my wife gets to deal with a lot more than I have to deal with because I have to get my work done. And so, yeah, I can't really take a whole lot of time. Like my days have not changed with the end of the school year, whereas hers, she's gone from basically working with a bunch of second graders during the day and then picking the boys up and coming home to basically having the boys all day. And I'll just be honest with you, my boys are stressful at times. We, I joke right now, particularly with Austin in particular, the fact that Austin and Alton are about polar opposites and when we did the one year photo shoots, Alton got to be thor and Austin's was captain America. But in hindsight we probably should have just dressed austin up as low key, because he is the trickster. He is the one frequently getting into trouble and being mischievous and like he gets that a little impush giggle and you're just like oh great, here we go. So yeah, he's definitely got the personality of low key and then I think he's just always trying to have fun and cause trouble and it's very, very exciting and very, very stressful. So on Sunday after church I needed to go needed I say kind of tongue in cheek. I didn't really need any more polo shirts, but I wanted to get some more polo shirts. With the men's golf out and coming up, wanted to have something new that didn't smell because all I don't know about you guys, but all of my lake dry fit polo shirts. For whatever reason, they've developed this kind of smell over the years. I don't know what it is. I don't know if there's something out there that's going to fix it. I've tried everything I know how to do and have had absolutely no success with it. But regardless, I wanted to bust something out new for the men's Golf Tournament, and so that is what I decided that I was going to do, and I had a great idea where my wife basically was going to get to put all Austin down for his nap and I said, Hey, what if I take Alton with me? We can go, you know, get my shirts shopped for and kind of have some father son time and then we'll come back. Gives you kind of a little bit of a rest bit so that you don't have to worry about both boys is causing chaos or keeping them entertained. You can do whatever you want to do. And she's like okay, so I want up doing that. It took a little bit of convincing because it first all and it's like, why, don't really want to go shopping with you dad, but then I told him, but I'll stop at Cabela's on the way, because I knew that he'd wanted to stop at Cabela's the night before when we were cracker barrel and we were there late enough that they did not have I don't think they had been open at that point, but we need to get the boys home to get them in bed anyways. So that was just not happening. But it was one of those things where I'm like, we'll go, we'll have some bonding time, we'll go get the polo shirts that I need and then go and take you to Cabella's so that you can kind of get your kicks out of going and seeing the what are they called? The fish in the tank, because you know, that's the reason that you go to Cabela's nowadays is you don't go to the zoo, you just go to quells and look at the fish. So that was that was what we were doing on Sunday. Wound up going to JC penny and, like, it's one of those things like when it comes to these polo shirts, I don't ever pay the retail price on them. I usually will go and see, hey, what do they have on clearance, or I get them for free. So like, you know, work related...

...once things like that, but I wanted to look and see what they had out there I got a new Oregon ducks one. It was a Nike One. It was like sixty percent off, so you know, it's think twenty five bucks when it was all said and done. And then I also got one that was kind of the best way I can describe it as a cream sickle color, as kind of a it's a bright orange, not like beaver's orange, and that it's got white stripes on it. So, like I mean, it very much makes you think of a cream stick when you look at it, and I'm sure that will probably be some joking taking place about that the men's golf outing, but that's okay, I'm good with it. So we went and did that and it was all sorts of fun because Alton and I are in the dressing room together. All I'm changing the shirt, taking pictures, figuring out which one Amanda likes best or which one's a man of likes best. I wanted up picking two out of the four that I found in my size. But in doing that, like, he noticed the little like ink packs that they use on them to keep people from stealing them, and it's like what's that? And so then I had to explain to him how it works. And let's be totally honest with you. I know that they are ink pacts. I know that they are designed to explode. I don't know if it's when you go outside or if you try to pull it off that it explodes and gets ink everywhere, but regardless, it's an aniff device, is what it boils down to. And so trying to explain that to him and he had all the questions about it because, you know, like Calvin's dad and Calvin and Hobbs, dad is supposed to know everything and dad honestly doesn't know everything. Like I'm like, Buddy, look, I worked in retail. I know that this is an antiff device, but we never use this particular type. In fact, the more that I think about it, I think Jac Penny is the only place that I've ever seen them in consistently, at least in the Washington Square Mall. So that was kind of like fun answering all of his questions and we had to go find a place to actually like pay for it, and like you'd go there and there would be a line no matter which register you went to. We wound up seeing different lines and finally we've got assistance and that was all well and good. Got On our way. Went over to Dick Sporting goods after that and wandered through there. I just wanted to look at their golf club that I'd been looking at before I got my thirty driver off of Amazon, and that wound up being quite I went and looked at it and like it's one of those fun things where it was only like a sixty driver, but the reviews were basically that no matter what, it always seemed to break, and so it kind of was one of Tho things. I was like I kind of wanted to see this driver in person, and I did see it in person and it it looked a lot nicer than the driver that I actually wound up getting, but it's not a like fantastic driver. It's definitely not a callaway anything like that. So that was our next little stop there. So after that we wound up going to Cabella's. And when we went to Cabela's, like it was one of those things like we weren't going in looking for anything specific. We just went in there knowing that Alton wanted to look at what they had in terms of the fish and then just kind of wandered around for a little bit and wanted to go look at the toy section all that stuff. So we did all of that good stuff. I went over there. I will say I think there is another thing that covid has cost us that I'm just like really, because they do not have a snack bar over in cabellas anymore. And on top of not having a snack bar, they did not have the nuts, the you know what I'm talking about, the ones that they like cover with like the brown sugar glaze or whatever it is. I don't hundred percent know what it is, other than my goodness, it is amazing. It tastes wonderful. I want to be able to eat those nuts and there aren't any there, like not at any of the registers, like they took everything out for it. So that was my big disappointment there. I was thinking, Oh, we could grab some of those. So yeah, that was a that was our fun little excursion for the day. Wind up getting Wendy's. That Wendy's over there is absurd, like they're...

...all absurd just in terms of how busy they frequently are, like the one in new Burg. I don't know why, but it and the dairy queen are both like constant top of them line. Everybody is there every you know, other day, it feels like. But they definitely like the one in twallet and it felt like it took forever. And despite the fact that it took forever, and despite the fact that Alton knew their menu by heart, he did not know what he wanted by the time I got up there, and so that was fun trying to get out of him. Hey, you want nuggets, a Burger or cheeseburger? Well, I want to wait until we get up there. Nobody. You don't understand. We have three items that you were picking between. Pick one. So that was that was fun. Went home all that. I do have to bring up the driver that I picked up for thirty dollars. That thing is, well, how do I put this? You can tell that it's cheap. We made that like. I mean it's a no name brand, like I think king par is what they sell it under. It's a brand I've never heard of and it's a big driver. I think it's the biggest one that they allow in the US Golfers Association. I think it's a four hundred and sixty CC. My driver that I had previously was only a four hundred and ten CC. I did get the chance to go out on Friday and actually try it out for the first time on a course. Didn't get any warm up in with it, so that was kind of a problem, but went into it cold. First drive off the tea was terrible, and I mean I kind of expected it because I was adjusting, but I was hoping I was going to do better and in going from that we wound up getting to I think it was the third hole, and that one I wound up bombing a two hundred yard drive off the tea and then chipping it on to be on a par for Intwo, which was big. Granted, I to putted it, so I didn't actually make the Birdie that I was hoping that I was going to make. But regardless, the driver will work when I hit it consistently. I just was not especially consistent with it. So before Saturday this week I need to go out and hit a couple buckets of range balls kind of get that feeling in, get wormed up, remember all of my muscle memory, letting the clubhead do the work, all that stuff. But I think that this driver, when I get it dialed in, is going to be a vast improvement over the last year and for Thirty Bucks, I'm not going to complain. So between that and then also the putter that I have, because I now have a new putter that's a pine meadow. I think it's a PGX pxg. I can't remember exactly what it is. I think pgx is one and PXG is another brand that like is a nicer brand than pine meadow, but regardless, I've got to get that dialed into because that is a completely different style of putter than what I am used to, and so I think it's going to be a bit of an adjustment getting that in as well. But hopefully going to be getting some of that sort of out this week before we go about the men's tournament. And Yeah, I'm on a for some which includes the guy who does actually golf rather frequently and his partner that he brought in who is probably a scratch Golfer. And even though it's a best ball, we're probably going to get killed. I don't care. I'm still going to have fun with it. It'll be it'll be a lot of fun. So we'll just go with it and see how it all turns out and have fun with that. So we're going to go ahead, we're going to head to our first break here and when we come back we are going to discuss what was streaming this week, which we've got bad batch. We've also got low key is here, finally burdened with glorious purpose. Tom Hittleston, what can I say about you? Will be right back. All right, and we are back. Thanks again so much for tuning in to the dead Laian podcast. So this week in streaming we watched another episode of the bad...

...batch and let me just tell you, this is really becoming one of my favorite shows as far as, like the Star Wars animated series goes, I really enjoy the characters the bad batch. I'm still waiting to find out really we're we're heading with all of this. But one thing that got resolved this week, and a spoiler alert if you haven't watched it yet, but the inhibitor chips, which has been kind of that wooming over arching sense of dread you have been feeling pretty much for the last like two or three episodes, because we all know that wrecker has been getting headaches since he bunked his head. And real of the bad batch only one of the group had any issues with the inhibitor chip, and that was, of course, crosshair was the one who was the problem with the inhibitor chip and he's obviously now a loyal soldier, but you had record dealing with these headaches that you kind of got the assumption would be the eventual takeover of his inhibitor chip, and that really wit was one of those things that you kind of are waiting for the sucker punch for, because he and Omega have such a relationship where like he's very childish and how he acts and Omega, the child, is really more mature but kind of gets to be a kid around Wrecker, and so that was a very interesting kind of thing to see that come to fruition now. The thing that was other than that was also the fact that you get rex back, and rex is kind of the catalyst to getting their inhibitor chips out, because he realizes that even if they hadn't kicked in yet, they may not be able to control it when they do get them coming to kick in, and so getting rid of them now is probably their best option. The other fun thing that comes in in this episode is you get a call back to Jedi fall in order in that the Junkyard Planet Whose Name Escapes Me, that all of those cruisers and everything that Calqustus is tasked with helping to scrap that planet, makes an appearance because that's where they go to find the medical facility to be able to take out the inhibitor chips for the batch. So that was a really fun episode. It kind of left in cliffhanger, as most cliffhangers do, where the guild has noticed that there are people on there that are trespassers and informing the empire, which means more than likely crosshair is going to be beating his group of commandos after them sooner rather than later. So that'll be interesting to see how that'll plays out. But regardless, it was a really enjoyed the episode. You got a little bit of the kind of like horror element this time because you had wrecker tracking Omega trying to capture her to basically take her out because she was aiding the clones who were gone rogue. Thankfully we get rex saving the day and stunning him so they can get the inhibitor chip out. It was it was a good episode. It enjoyed it. I'm going to be great. It's going to be a little bit better going forward to not have to worry about when one of them is going to flip, so that'll be exciting. The other big thing this week is obviously everybody's favorite God of mischief from the marvel movies, low key, is getting his own series. This is one of those things that I've been waiting for for a while and honestly, I think this will probably wind up being my favorite series of the phase four TV series that we have seen so far. Because here's the deal. I came into it expecting that one division was going to be jumping the shark. I was expecting that Captain American the winter soldier was going to be my favorite series of the group, and then look, was going to be ranking above one division, but probably belowcaptain America in the winter soldier. Her. Yeah, Falcon in the winter soldier, I guess he's Captain America now. Either way works. They did change that title card at the end. I think that's what through me, but regardless, after going through Wan Division and for me that is actually been my favorite of the series so far, Falcon in the winter soldier was good, but it...

...felt like a sixhour movie that probably could have trended down to two and a half hours and you wouldn't necessarily lost anything. One Division was at least unique in its perspective and how everything was brought together. Now with Lokey, honestly this is on track to be my favorite because, honestly, Tom Hilston as that character like he embodies everything about that character. He is fantastic in everything that he does, his intonations. As he arrives at the beginning of episode in the middle of the desert and stands up in front of a group of people in the Gobi desert, it says I am low key of Asgard and I am burdened with glorious purpose. His delivery is always pristine on that. And then just as he's thinking, Wow, I got away with that, the TVA shows up to arrest him and after a little bit of a standoff there's a really comical situation where he gets hit in the face with something that apparently moves him to one sixteen speed. After he's been hit, as the TVA agent is putting the collar on him to restrict his ability to get away, and like I saw a really great thing where apparently Tom Hittleston in order to make that effect that they had where he's been punched in his face is flapping in the wind. He was apparently blowing a raspberry into his cheek while being filmed in slow motion. It was fantastic just watching it and realizing that that wasn't necessarily a digital effect. That was more of a practical effect. But regardless, he then gets sucked in here and it it's fascinating to see him in this situation because the time variance authority, which is kind of the you find is just overarching, like it's basically trimming all of the branch timelines and there are things that are supposed to happen in the quote unquote sacred timeline and that was it. Anything that deviates from that was clipped and you know that sort of thing. If you weren't made a choice you were supposed to make, then that gets clipped off and all of that. And you find out there was apparently some multiversal war at some point and the timekeepers made the decision to basically have the sacred timeline and all of that. It's a very interesting setup, but and it's I do have to say it is done by miss minutes, who is like this animated, like s looking cartoon. That kind of explains how the multiverse works and it was very, very funny just kind of seeing that. It's all very matter of fact, like Chipper Hey, and it's voiced by none other than the voice of Harley Quinn. I believe it's Tara strong. Is the name of the character, or not the name the character of the name the actress who does Harley Quinn. She is actually the voice of Miss Minutes. So that was very interesting. You into the big thing where you realize where the rest of the show is going to be going. I'm not going to go into a ton of spoilers on this, but one thing that I do have to say with the whole episode, which I think you will probably really enjoy. If you enjoyed anything involving low key within the last decade, you will probably enjoy this show. But the whole discussion with Owen Wilson talking to low key and like Owen Wilson's character of agent mobius is phenomenal because he is a very like dry like. He is not impressed at all with low key and his abilities, so to speak, and wokey's abilities are somewhat limited in the time various authority, which he finds out in in the best way possible towards the end of it. I'm not going to spoil that if you haven't seen it, but it was something where I was like, Oh, okay, yeah, but he's talking about Lokey's history and his escapes and all of that. And the one that got me, though, was what I am choosing to believe is the actual explanation for DB Cooper, and that is that DB Cooper was actually low key and that...

...he escaped by getting sucked across the Bifrost by thor and your dress, Elba. Why can I think of his character's name? All of a sudden, I'm drawing a blank here, and these like one of the greatest characters, I'm doll, I'm doll, pulls him back through the by frost after you jumps out of the plane. That, for me, going forward, is going to be my absolute accepted explanation for DB Cooper's existence, and you can't tell me otherwise. Like it was just such a phenomenal little like scene of something a time where Loki had been on earth previously. That didn't mess up the timeline, but was fun, and then finding out that the entire reason he did that was because he'd lost a bet to thor and I was just like, oh my gosh, I was just dying with laughter at that point. So yeah, lots to cover in that first episode. It was a lot of fun to watch. Really really enjoyed it. Really looking forward to seeing where the rest of this series goes. But this, I think, is on track to be my favorite of the Marvel series at this point. So that was a lot of fun. there. Also bring in the update for fortnight, because that has happened. I did not get up any further than I was trying to after last week's episode, but I will say this week they have actually last week, after the episode watched, they did. The new season has officially started and we've moved on from running around with dinosaurs to now there are aliens. This is now. This is interesting, like they've got ufos and all of that. It's different. There's a new favorite weapon for me, I'm going to have to say is the Railgun, because it's basically a sniper rifle class weapon, but this particular weapon can basically annihilate just about any barrier that is put up in front of it. I actually managed to go ahead and destroy a person shooting through a wall. It basically destroyed the wall that was between me and them and took them out all at the same time. Like it. The thing is ridiculously powerful. If you can score a headshot blind through a wall, there's not a whole lot the other guy can do. It takes a little bit to set up and it gives away it's the fact that you're getting ready to use it, because it gives a nice big red wike tracer line that obviously you're going to see if it's being pointed at you, but sometimes there's just nothing you can do about it, and so that's kind of become my new thing it. I've already got my first victory for the season, which was that happened a lot sooner than expected. I actually have, I think, two victories already for season seven, so that's been that's been fun kind of getting into that. It's definitely different. It's definitely not like my favorite. Like I think my favorite was really the season before this, was a season five when the Mandalorian came up. I think that was probably a little bit more along my speed, but I am adjusting to the new weapons and the new things going on with that. And Yeah, it's it's been. It's been a fun and thing. Also, I'm going to go to audio books because I am on the last of the throng trilogy and so much to remember from this series. Reason, we've now got to the point where the twins have been born and Lando is trying to get assistance, but there's somebody ominous coming after Laya on Coruscon to try to take her and the children, and I don't remember exactly how it plays out in the book, but I seem to remember it is set up to make you think that it's going to be sabby off is going to be the one that's coming, and then it actually winds up being the clone of Luke. So that will be interesting just to see how that plays out. The NOGRI have kind of taken their indirect defiance of the empire and have...

...started growing their own food, but doing it in a covert area where the empire can't necessarily see it. And so it's going to be it's going to be interesting just to kind of get all my memories. I remember how everything ends. Thrown is dead, the no grey or the ones that take him out and all of that, but there's just so much that I don't remember from this and I've got it, I think, about twelve hours left in the book, so it'll be good to kind of go back and get a refresher on what had happened in there. So, all right, we are going to go ahead head to our last break. When we come back we are going to do our pod decks. Question of the week stay too. All right, thanks so much for staying with us this week on the podcast. If you want to support the dad that Orient Podcast, you absolutely we can do that. If you want to go online to buy me a coffeecom slash the dead Delorean we are on there. There are options. You can do one time donation if you want to do it that way. You also have the option become a subscriber and be a part of our dad delorrian covert. That is something where you get to find out about the episodes of the day before they are as well as you get the opportunity to participate in our Dad Dolorrian covert meetings, which basically at this point is a game time. Right now, it's xbox exclusive. However, it is one of those things that I'm not opposed to expanding it, depending on if we've got something that we can do cross platform, and also switching it maybe to a discord server at some point down the road so we can kind of have that crossplay and discussion at least. So that is kind of where we're at right now with it this week for the pod decks question of the week. What is one thing that you'd be really disappointed if you never get to experience it that for me, honestly, I think it would be seeing my boys grow up, and it's one of those things, like you take the time to think about it. You know, we're all mortal. At some point we're going to die. We don't know when. I could be here today, gone tomorrow, like it is completely up to God at this point as far as when I do or do not weave this earth, and so I think not having the ability to to see my boys grow up, I think, would probably be the biggest disappointment for me, just because like seeing them just in the short time that I've had them so far. You know, I've got a four year old, I've got an almost two year old, like he acts like he's a two year old. He's really like nineteen, twenty months, but like seeing their personalities developed just in the little time that we've had them and kind of realizing that they're going to grow on to become a fully functioning human being at some point and not being able to see how they turn out on that like that's one of those things that I think I would be super disappointed if I never got to see that, and so I don't know. I mean I assume that I will be here, I plan to be here and to be able to watch them grow up. It's just one of those things like if I didn't have the opportunity to do that, I think that would be kind of a big disappointment for me. So want to hear from you. If you will have feedback on that, definitely reach out. You can hit me up at the dad do Lorian podcast on instagram. You can hit me at GMAILCOM, the Dad Orion podcast at gmailcom. Those are kind of the two primary ways to be able to get ahold of me. So hope you have a great day whatever you're doing, and hope you're crushing it and remember parenting is a complicated profession. Stay safe out there, my friends. Take Care.
